National Media Office and TRENDS Research Collaborate on AI Media Regulation Study.

Abu Dhabi: The National Media Office (NMO), in collaboration with TRENDS Research and Advisory, has launched a research study titled “The Role of Media Regulatory Institutions in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges.” This study highlights the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications on the media sector, focusing on the ethical and regulatory challenges faced by Arab media institutions amidst rapidly evolving technological changes.

According to Emirates News Agency, the study was unveiled during the third edition of the Global Media Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi, addressing the widespread use of AI technologies in media. It examines the major transformations these technologies have caused, particularly in how media influences and engages the public. AI has introduced more advanced tools for delivering news, affecting print, audio, visual media, social media, and new media platforms.

ia Council, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to scientific research under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He highlighted the importance of integration between media organizations and research institutions to address future challenges and enhance public awareness of strategic issues.

Al Hamed noted that the National Media Office aims to strengthen integration between the media system and national institutions to highlight achievements and enhance the UAE’s global reputation. He praised the collaboration with TRENDS Research and Advisory, which offers innovative scientific plans that contribute to shaping the future through distinguished national talents.

He also stated that the study serves as an important reference for understanding media transformations in the AI era, providing a foundation for media regulatory institutions to adopt strategies for sustainable, responsible media aligned with digital age developments.

He affirmed that the study supports the Arab media industry, offering insights into leveraging AI technologies to enhance media content quality while maintaining ethical standards. Dr. Al-Ali highlighted the opportunities and challenges AI presents, aiming to guide media institutions in optimal technology use.

The study, prepared by TRENDS Research and Advisory with the National Media Office, covers AI ethics in media, balancing innovation with human rights, and best practices in AI governance. It addresses AI applications, the role of media regulatory institutions, and the state of Arab media in the AI era.

The study emphasizes that AI technologies have significantly altered the media landscape in the Arab world, creating smarter tools for news production and dissemination. It aims to introduce AI technologies, analyze media regulatory roles, and apply findings to Arab media institutions, highlighting reliance on intelligent
robots and changes in media regulatory structures.

The study stresses the role of media regulatory institutions in balancing technological innovation with social and human rights protection, calling for flexible regulatory policies to preserve media integrity in the AI age.
